VSBA Inclusive Schools Fund Sunshine Harvester PS
The Sunshine Harvester Primary School Inclusive Schools Fund (ISF) project transformed the existing outdoor environment into an engaging, inclusive and sensory-rich learning space designed to support the diverse needs of all students.
About
The Sunshine Harvester Primary School Inclusive Schools Fund (ISF) project transformed the existing outdoor environment into an engaging, inclusive and sensory-rich learning space designed to support the diverse needs of all students. The project focused on creating opportunities for play, exploration, connection and outdoor learning through a thoughtful combination of natural elements and interactive features.
The upgraded space incorporates a range of inclusive play and learning opportunities, including a revitalised sandpit area with interactive wall play panels, timber log stepping elements to encourage movement and balance, and sensory planting throughout the garden. A dedicated yarning circle provides a central gathering space for students and staff, supporting connection, storytelling and collaborative learning.
A natural mural created by a local artist was introduced to an existing wall, adding visual interest while strengthening the school’s connection with the wider community. The integration of sensory plants and natural materials creates a calming and engaging environment that encourages exploration and supports students with diverse sensory needs.
The completed outdoor learning space provides a welcoming and adaptable environment that promotes inclusion, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging for the entire Sunshine Harvester Primary School community.
