The Powlett River Primary School Playground Revitalisation transformed the existing outdoor environment into an inclusive, nature-inspired play and learning space that encourages exploration, connection and imaginative play.

About

The Powlett River Primary School Playground Revitalisation transformed the existing outdoor environment into an inclusive, nature-inspired play and learning space that encourages exploration, connection and imaginative play. The project focused on creating a multifunctional landscape that supports the diverse needs of students while strengthening their connection with the natural environment.

The design introduced a series of dedicated play zones, each offering unique opportunities for learning, social interaction and physical activity. A rock amphitheatre provides a flexible gathering and performance space, while a new playground unit, musical play area and open free-play zones encourage creativity, movement and collaboration. A sensory garden was incorporated to provide a calming and engaging environment where students can interact with natural materials, textures and planting.

At the centre of the playground, a communal yarning circle creates a shared gathering space that connects the surrounding play zones and provides opportunities for storytelling, reflection and social connection. The careful arrangement of spaces promotes inclusivity, allowing students of all abilities to participate, explore and engage at their own pace.

Through a considered landscape approach, the project delivers a vibrant and adaptable outdoor environment that supports wellbeing, creativity and connection, creating a valuable asset for the Powlett River Primary School community.
