VSBA Capital Minor Works Fund Diamond Creek East Primary School
The Diamond Creek East Primary School Playground Revitalisation transformed an underutilised and inactive area within the school grounds into a vibrant, inclusive and multifunctional outdoor learning and play environment.
About
The Diamond Creek East Primary School Playground Revitalisation transformed an underutilised and inactive area within the school grounds into a vibrant, inclusive and multifunctional outdoor learning and play environment. Engaged by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), the project focused on unlocking the potential of an existing “dead” zone that previously offered limited opportunities for student engagement and recreation.
The design aimed to create a dynamic space that encourages imaginative play, social interaction and informal outdoor learning, while ensuring the area could adapt to the future growth and evolving needs of the school community. A strong focus on inclusive design principles guided the development of the playground, incorporating equitable access, considered circulation pathways and a range of sensory experiences to support students of all abilities.
The final design integrates a variety of play elements, including a rock amphitheatre, accessible spinner, musical play area and maze, carefully arranged to promote exploration, collaboration and creativity. Clear sightlines and thoughtful spatial planning ensure the space remains safe and easily supervised while providing students with opportunities for independent and group play.
The completed playground provides a welcoming and engaging outdoor environment that enhances student wellbeing, supports inclusive participation and creates a lasting asset for the Diamond Creek East Primary School community.
