About
The Toorak Library Accessibility Upgrade enhanced equitable access to the facility through the replacement of the existing non-compliant front entrance ramp with a new, fully accessible and DDA-compliant solution. The project focused on improving accessibility for all visitors, including people with mobility challenges, while creating a welcoming and inclusive arrival experience.
The existing ramp was removed and replaced with a carefully designed access solution that responded to the functional requirements of the library while complementing the building’s existing architectural character. The new ramp was sensitively integrated with the façade, maintaining the visual integrity of the heritage and civic qualities of the site while improving safety, usability and accessibility.
Through collaboration with key stakeholders and consideration of community needs, the project delivered an inclusive upgrade that supports the library’s role as an accessible community facility. The completed works provide a seamless connection between the public realm and the library interior, ensuring the space is welcoming and accessible for all users.
